We are delighted to have retained our Carbon Neutral certification for the 4th year in succession. This means that anyone purchasing their packaging products from us do so with a ZERO carbon footprint.

Since embarking on a commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2040, 10 years ahead of the legal backstop of 2050, we have introduced changes in processes, procurement and mindsets resulting in our operational control emissions (scope 1 & scope 2) accounting for only 7.86% of our total carbon footprint.

Whilst we continue to drive further reductions in our operational control emissions, the main focus for the next 5 years is to realise the same reduction in our non-operational control emissions, especially our supply chain (scope 3 category 1 – Purchased Goods & Services) which accounts for 87.32% of our total carbon footprint alone! Like most organisations, supply chain is the single largest contributor to our carbon footprint, so engagement, mobilisation and alignment will be the main focus to ensure we achieve our ambitious Net Zero target.

2025 also marks a significant shift in Carbon Neutral certification as the historic PAS2060 is being replaced by ISO14068-1. There are a number of key differences for any organisation looking to achieve ISO14068-1 Carbon Neutral certification, most noticeably the minimum inclusion of 5 of the 15 categories in scope 3, which were previously optional under PAS2060. ISO14068-1 also requires a reduction in carbon emissions in the boundary period, as well as all subsequent years. The credentials of carbon credits, used to mitigate the remaining carbon emissions has also increased, including vintage, quality, reduced leakage. Since commencing our sustainability journey in 2020, we have ALWAYS measured ALL 15 categories of scope 3 in addition to the mandatory scope 1 & scope 2, resulting in our being the FIRST FULL 3 scope Carbon Neutral sheet plant packaging company in the UK.

Martin Hickman, Managing Director confirmed, “Since starting our Net Zero journey back in 2020, we have always undertaken a full 3 scope calculation so do not see any issues with the transition to ISO14068-1. Our focus over the next 5 years will be on supply chain as it is critical to our own Net Zero targets that they begin to deliver similar reductions we have achieved over the past 4 years. As we continue to grow as a business, sustainability remains at the forefront of our strategy and will be a priority in our procurement processes.”

Dom Napier, Managing Director of TTBCG confirmed, “We are delighted to continue to support Sandland Packaging on their journey to Net Zero and look forward to mobilising their supply chain to join them on elevating sustainability and carbon emission reduction aligned to Sandland Packaging’s Net Zero target. Sandland Packaging is leading the sustainability crusade within their industry and has always measured all 15 categories of scope 3 in addition to scope 1 & scope 2, so the transition to ISO14068-1 should be relatively easy from a process point of view. The greatest challenge comes from mobilising their supply chain, ensuring it is aligned to their own Net Zero target, which is common practice in any Net Zero strategy.”
