For one of our recent trade shows, we faced a dilemma – how do we efficiently convey to our customers and prospects our specialist capability of designing and manufacturing bespoke corrugated cardboard boxes?

Enter the Sandland Packaging Trade Show Desk😊

Designing a corrugated cardboard desk for a trade show presented us with a unique opportunity to showcase both the material’s versatility and our ability to design and manufacturer custom corrugated boxes. The objective was to create a functional piece of trade show furniture, and communicate durability, sustainability, and innovation in a highly competitive exhibition environment.

Concept Development and Design

The design phase began with defining key requirements: the desk needed to be lightweight for transport, quick to assemble without tools, structurally strong enough to support typical desk loads, and visually striking to attract attention on the show floor. Using CAD software, we developed a flat-pack concept consisting of interlocking panels. Structural integrity was achieved through a combination of double-wall corrugated board and strategically placed folds that acted as reinforcement ribs.

Communicating our sustainability ethos

Sustainability is a central pillar at Sandland Packaging and we needed to be able to communicate that quickly and efficiently. To do this we ensured our Carbon Neutral, FSC and ISOs logos were printed clearly on to the Trade Show Desk. This also helped let everyone know that they can print their boxes in two colours flexo with Sandland Packaging.

Trade Show impact

At the trade show, the cardboard desk really impressed both our team and the visiting customers and prospects. Comments were made about its usefulness, strength and clean design, often expressing surprise that corrugated cardboard could perform so effectively as furniture. The desk also reinforced the our sustainability message, aligning with growing industry interest in eco-friendly solutions.

Overall, the project successfully combined design innovation, precise manufacturing, and effective branding. It demonstrated how corrugated cardboard can move beyond traditional packaging applications into creative, high-impact promotional uses, leaving a lasting impression on potential clients.
